ICU Toxicology – Dr. Karin Halvorson – Tulane University – November 12, 2015

Dr. Halvorson’s expertise on the nexus between emergency medicine and critical care is fully on display in this lecture on ICU Toxicology.  Topics covered in this lecture are: a general approach to toxidromes, a review of “street drugs” and the toxidromes they often present with, and toxidromes associated with prescription and over-the-counter medications, and the management of the intoxicated patient.

Dr. Karin Halvorson joined Tulane University as the ICU Director or the new Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System.  Dr. Halvorson completed a combined residency in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Subsequently she attended Brown University for her Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship, where she served as the liaison between the emergency department and the intensive care unit during her time at Brown.
