Pearls:

  • Hepatic Encephalopathy should be treated early and aggressively in Acute Liver Failure.
  • Hepatitidies A, B, E are the most common cause of Acute Liver Failure in the developing world.
  • Acetaminophen overdose (often chronic and accidental in nature) is the most common cause of Acute Liver Failure in western countries.
  • Only a certain subset of patients can be treated with prednisolone for Alcoholic Hepatitis, follow the Lille Score.
  • Twice daily proton pump inhibitors seem to be as effective as drips for ulcerative upper GI bleeds.
