Major Criteria
- positive blood cultures of typical organisms (staph, strep viridins, strep gallolyticus, HACEK, enterococci), echocardiogram with evidence of vegetation, single positive culture for coxiella burnetii.
Minor Criteria
- predisposing heart condition, IVDA, Temp >38, vascular phenomena, immunologic phenomena, microbiologic evidence.
Diagnostic:
- 2 Major
- 1 Major, 3 Minor
- 0 Major, 5 Minor
Treatment:
- Usually able to guide by growth of organism, therapy is usually 4-6 weeks of IV abx.
- Indications for surgery are heart failure, uncontrolled infection, prevention of embolism.
